Understanding Health Insurance

August 31, 2017 by Krissa Secrist You’ve no doubt noticed, since the inception of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, there have been many changes made to the health insurance industry. Many of those changes include: Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment that allows those who meet the income qualifications to receive a monthly subsidy or tax credit. The requirement by law to maintain a qualified health insurance policy or pay a fine. Preexisting conditions can no longer be a basis for denial of coverage. The ability to enroll only during the Open Enrollment Period or due to a Qualifying Event. What’s important to remember is that a Health Insurance Agent can help you at no extra cost. Don’t bother to navigate the Health Insurance Marketplace on your own because you’ll be left with headaches and frustration. An Agent has already experienced just about every single scenario there is and knows how to process it through the Marketplace. Lean on the experts to guide you. Keep in mind that there will most likely be follow through required on your end such as providing verification of income and/or providing proof of loss of coverage. A local Health Insurance Agent will also help you to determine what plans can be utilized in your area. More than once since the inception of the Health Insurance Marketplace I’ve heard someone say that they’re unable to keep the same doctor or that they simply have no provider options. Unfortunately, the Marketplace call center employees aren’t familiar with your local area and may steer you in the wrong direction. Although the new Presidential Administration is trying to make changes to the Affordable Care Act, we’re not expecting those, if any, to be implemented until the year 2019. Remember to call on the health insurance experts and if you’re not getting your questions answered or being provided all of the options available to you, find a new expert because having the right health insurance policy is incredibly important.
